A transparent breakdown of standard DStv installation prices in Johannesburg, Pretoria and greater Gauteng, plus what actually affects the final quote.
The short answer
A standard single-view DStv installation in Gauteng costs between R650 and R1 400 in 2025. That price should include a new 80cm dish, a Smart LNB, a wall or roof bracket, up to 20 metres of RG6 satellite cable, all connectors and a full signal test.
Anything cheaper than R500 usually means old equipment, no warranty or a hidden call-out fee added later. Anything much higher than R1 500 for a standard install usually means the technician is loading the price.
What affects the price
Height and access โ double-storey homes, thatch roofs and difficult access add time and safety equipment.
Cable distance โ anything beyond 20 metres from dish to decoder adds cost.
Number of rooms โ Extra View for a second or third room adds a small amount for extra cable and setup.
Bracket type โ non-penetrating and heavy-duty brackets for tile and IBR roofs are slightly more.
Smart LNB upgrade โ required for Extra View and adds around R400 if not already fitted.
What should always be included
Written quote before work starts. Signal test on every tuner. Weather-sealed cable entry. Neat cable routing. A workmanship guarantee. Any installer who won't put these in writing should be a red flag.
Ways to save without cutting corners
Book on the same visit as any other work โ TV wall mounting, Extra View or decoder setup done together saves a call-out.
