A practical, no-nonsense comparison of DStv decoder options for South African homes.
The HD PVR (single view)
Cheapest option. Records but only when you're not watching. Good for a single-TV household on a smaller package.
The Explora Ultra
MultiChoice's flagship. Supports Extra View, connected services, streaming apps and PVR while watching live TV. Best choice for most Gauteng households in 2025.
The Streama
Cheapest way to add a second room via streaming — no dish cable required, but needs a solid uncapped fibre connection.
